A suspected illegal immigrant living in Vinton is being deported by federal authorities after his arrest in September.
Jorge L. Galeas-Pineda, 24, was arrested by Vinton Police on Sept. 26, for driving while suspended. He had also been charged with providing false information to a Benton County Deputy. He gave that officer a false name.
Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and U.S. Marshals came to Vinton on Oct. 8, to take Galeas into custody.
Court documents on file in Benton County indicated that those charges were dismissed on Oct. 7, because Galeas-Pineda is scheduled to be deported.
The federal officers from Cedar Rapids came to in Vinton Oct. 8. They went to an address on East 11th Street which was listed on court documents as Galeas-Pineda's residence when local authorities arrested him.
