Illegal aliens detained

Twelve illegal aliens were detained Wednesday along Interstate 80 and Route 478 in Clarion County.

State police responded to a disable vehicle around 11:35 a.m. Wednesday along Interstate 80 at Exit 45 in Richland Township.

Police said a cell phone caller reported seeing three men flee the vehicle. PennDOT workers mowing grass in the area saw the men fleeing into the woods, police said.

A search of the area resulted in the apprehension of nine men, police said. They said the men could not produce identification and were turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials.

Emlenton and Knox police and a state police helicopter assisted with the search.

Police detained three more men around 7:05 p.m. after they were found walking along Route 478 at Exit 45 of I-80.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents were contacted and the men were placed in Clarion County jail, police said.
