Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents took 16 people into custody Monday after a van was pulled over on I-85 in Spartanburg County, according to News Channel 7.
The action came after a sheriff's deputy stopped the van on the interstate and found 14 men and two women inside. An ICE spokesperson said all were from Mexico and Guatemala and appeared to be in this country illegally, according to News Channel 7.
Investigators said the people taken into custody told officers they were on their way from Phoenix to Charlotte. They were being held at the ICE office in Greenville.
