Undocumented immigrants taken from Santa Rosa jail

The first group of nine undocumented workers to be taken from Santa Rosa County Jail by the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency left without incident Tuesday morning. Fifteen more are expected to be taken this week.
Barbara Gonzalez, communications director for the southern region of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, said the subjects are being processed in Mobile and will be taken to an as-yet-undetermined detention center.
The deportation procedure varies based on several things, including where the person is being deported to and what kind of a criminal background the person has, Gonzalez said.
If the person is from Mexico, authorities there are notified and the person typically is taken to an official port of entry along the border.
Other deportees typically are taken by air to their home country, sometimes on commercial flight if security is not a concern, Gonzalez said.
