A Jamaican national with a long criminal record was sentenced Thursday to five years' imprisonment for illegally reentering the country after being deported, authorities said.
Donovan Wayne Tucker, 42, was arrested by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement on Oct. 1, 2007, according to ICE. The federal agency handed the case over to the U.S. Attorney's Office because of the illegal reentry charge.
The court sentenced Tucker to more than the statute specified, citing Tucker's long criminal record, use of aliases, and history of absconding on bonds to avoid prosecution.
According to court records, Tucker was arrested in Dec. 2005 following an anonymous tip that he was attempting to board a flight for Las Vegas from Fort Lauderdale International Airport using the identity of a Jason Camberg. When he was arrested, Tucker carried a birth certificate and a Florida driver's license in the name of Jason Camberg.
He was deported to Jamaica on April 5, 2006.
According to court statements, investigators tied Tucker to nine arrests in cities across the United States, including New York, San Francisco, Albany and Las Vegas on various charges. Tucker avoided prosecution on the charges by using aliases and absconding on bonds before authorities could verify his true identity.
