MISSION - Police recovered the body of a man who jumped into a canal following a chase with Border Patrol.

The canal is located near the intersection of Conway and Abelino Farias Road.

Witnesses on the scene say Agents had been searching for a group of illegals for much of the day before the man jumped into the canal.

"He came around to my house and I tell him leave because my grandma is there. She's scared all the border patrol and the helicopter. Then he ran again into the monte and the border patrol truck stopped over there and me and my uncle call the border patrol and they came to my house and the guy got out of the monte and the border patrol got out of the truck and followed him but the border patrol fell and the guy ran to the water and they followed him in the truck and he jumped," explains Ricardo Palma.

The Border Patrol tells CHANNEL 5 NEWS they did try and save the one man who drowned but were unable too. Eleven other suspected illegals were captured though.
