CORPUS CHRISTI — High temperatures are leading to more illegal immigrants in distress, the U.S. Border Patrol reported.
In the past two days alone, agents at the Falfurrias checkpoint have rescued five illegal immigrants attempting to cross the hot Texas brush, according to a news release.
On Monday evening, agents were alerted by a Brooks County dispatcher that a group had called in distress. Agents found four illegal immigrants from Mexico on a ranch near Encino, border patrol agents reported.
On Tuesday, agents rescued another man from Mexico near an airstrip south of Farm-to-Market Road 755 after he called 911.
None were in need of medical assistance, border patrol officials said. All will be processed and returned to their country of origin.
Agents with the Rio Grande Valley Sector have rescued more than 150 illegal immigrants this year, according to a news release.
