A Yuba City man has been held to answer on a first-degree murder charge in the November shooting of a Sureño gang member.
Sutter County Judge Perry Parker scheduled a June 20 arraignment for Pedro Yepez Morales, 26, also an alleged Sureño, after an all-day preliminary hearing Thursday.
Juan Carlos Chavarin was shot to death Nov. 28 at his home in the 800 block of Spiva Avenue.
All charges against Morales' co-defendant, Ramon Jesus Armenta, were dropped before the hearing. Armenta testified he did not know Morales had a gun when the two men went to Chavarin's house.
Armenta was also a Sureño. He testified he quit the gang because he was "tired of it all."
Armenta remains in Sutter County Jail awaiting possible deportation by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, said Assistant District Attorney Jana McClung.
