Immigration agents arrested 10 people in Rhode Island as part of a seven-day nationwide effort dubbed Operation Cross Check, that led to more than 2,400 arrests of convicted criminal illegal immigrants and immigration fugitives across the country in May, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement [ICE] announced Tuesday.
The Rhode Island arrests included four in Central Falls, one in Newport, four in Providence and one in Woonsocket, said Chuck Jackson, regional ICE public affairs officer in Boston.
Jackson said that some 175 federal, state and local officers participated in the arrests throughout New England.
The individuals face charges for a variety of crimes including sexual assault, drugs, resisting arrest, and receiving stolen property, he said.
Further information about the 10 people arrested in Rhode Island was unavailable Tuesday, Jackson said.
