Two named in federal indictments

TAHLEQUAH — An alleged illegal immigrant is one of the people named in federal indictments returned this month by a grand jury meeting in Muskogee.
Jose Ascencion Miranda-Chavez was indicted on a count of illegal re-entry of a previously deported alien. Miranda-Chavez, 51, is also known as Jose Ascencion Miranda and Jose Ascencion Chavez.
Federal authorities allege Miranda-Chavez was arrested Aug. 20 near the intersection of State Highway 100 and U.S. Highway 59 near Stilwell by the Tulsa Fugitive Operations Team. He was previously removed in 1983, 1992, and Oct. 16, 2007, and has no pending application for re-entry or citizenship.
The charges stem from an investigation by the Department of Homeland Security Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
It carries up to 10 years in prison and up to $250,000 in fines.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Chris Wilson is prosecuting the case.
Also, Raymond Thomas Hobbs was indicted for felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. Hobbs, 57, had a 12 gauge double barrel shotgun and 43 rounds of 12 gauge ammunition on June 20 when a state search warrant was served on his home. The charges stem from an investigation by the Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
The crime carries up to 10 years in prison and up to $250,000 in fines.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Shannon Henson is prosecuting the case.
