Peggy Mishoe - For The Sun News
Traffic offense | On September 7 in Surfside, an officer checked a vehicle registration that was expired. The driver, 22, did not have a valid driver’s license, but produced an Internet ID and a Brazilian passport with no entry visa stamp to the U.S. A check of his name showed a controlled driver’s license for South Carolina and a possible immigration violation. The officer contacted Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) and that agency sent a photo, but it was not the same suspect. The officer spoke with another ICE agent who did not wish to pursue the immigration violation due to it being magisterial level offenses. The driver had been convicted two months ago in Myrtle Beach for no driver’s license. The officer found a green leafy substance that appeared to be marijuana, arrested him and issued citations for no driver’s license, marijuana possession and expired vehicle license.
