LOS ANGELES Federal agents Wednesday detained 61 foreign nationals, including six children, who were suspected of entering the country illegally, authorities said.

Agents raided a two-story, single-family home in the 10300 block of South Normandie Avenue at 6:30 a.m. and found people living in "appalling" conditions, according to Virginia Kice of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Among those detained were three teenagers, along with a 2-year-old child and two year-old children, Kice said.

The home's occupants were from El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Ecuador, Kice said.

Authorities were interviewing the people and working to ensure that the children would not be separated from their parents, Kice said.
