ICE arrests four Evans residents in green card case
April 9, 2008
Four Evans residents were arrested last month in connection with a bribery case involving the illegal purchase of “green cards” in New Mexico.
Agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated the case and made the arrests.
The residents were identified as Mexican nationals who were living in the country illegally, according to ICE. Luis Daniel Miramontes-Morales, 44, is charged with bribing a public official. The other three — his wife, Guadalupe Miramontes-Morales, 43, his sister, Margarita Ordonez-Quintana, 33, and her husband, Francisco Javier Ordonez-Morales, 44 — were charged with illegally entering the United States.
Luis Miramontes-Morales is accused of paying $12,000 in cash to a federal agent in exchange for four resident alien cards, commonly referred to as green cards. The arrests were part of a six-month investigation.
The two couples were being held without bond in federal court in Albuquerque.
Luis and Guadalupe Miramontes-Morales operated Princess Boutique at 1920 9th St. for the past three years. The business license for the boutique, which started in April 2005, was set to expire in May, according to the Colorado Secretary of State’s Office.
