Traffic Stop Nets Illegal Immigrant

(Ripley County, Ind.) – A man is likely to be deported to Mexico for the second time after Indiana State Police arrested him.

A trooper made a traffic stop on Interstate 74 in Ripley County near the 149 mile marker last Wednesday afternoon, May 26.

The driver said he didn’t have a driver’s license and identified himself as Florencio Serano of Chicago. Because the driver seemed so nervous, the trooper did some further investigation.

After running a check on the driver through the El Paso Intelligence Center, it was revealed Florencio Serano was an alias and the individual was preliminarily identified as 36-year-old Alejandro Rueda.

Rueda had a 2003 federal drug conviction for which he served time in prison after which he as deported back to his home country of Mexico.

Contact was then made with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (I.C.E.) who reviewed Rueda’s file and confirmed Rueda was the individual whom Tpr. Wells was detaining and showed him to be an “aggravated felon” who illegally re-entered the United States.

Rueda was taken by I.C.E. agents from the scene of the traffic stop to Marion County Jail in Indianapolis.

He is charged with Re-Entry After Deportation, punishable by up to five years in prison and another deportation after his release.
