LAS CRUCES - Two suspects will be deported after being discovered by White Sands Missile Range Police, U.S. Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement at the range on April 28.

Their identities have not been released to the public.

Using a new kind of smartphone-based scanner connected to databases, including an immigration-status database, the agents encountered two suspects who were employed by a company contracted to do construction-related work on WSMR, according to White Sands police.

The two said they had petitioned for permits to work in the U.S., but agents were unable to find any record of such permits.

The April 28 action was the second compliance check of its kind, the first having occurred in February, where two suspects were also taken into custody. Compliance checks will continue on a quarterly basis, according to White Sands police.
