INDIANAPOLIS—Federal authorities have lifted detention orders for five young illegal immigrants arrested during a protest at Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels' office.

One of the five said in a jail interview Tuesday that they all felt the need to protest two anti-illegal immigration bills Daniels signed into law Tuesday. Nineteen-year-old Sayra Perez said she was born in Mexico but has lived in Indiana since she was 5.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention orders that were pending against the five lifted by early Tuesday evening. ICE spokesman Carl Rusnok stopped short of saying the five would not face deportation hearings.

The five face initial hearings Wednesday on criminal trespass charges stemming from Monday's protest at Daniels' Statehouse office.
