A Mexican resident was sentenced to prison Thursday and will be deported once he is released, according to a media release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Luis Contreras-Mata aka Luis Esperanza Contreras aka Luis Eduardo Contreras, 29, was sentenced to 10 months in prison after pleading guilty to illegal re-entry of a previously deported alien.
Charges arose from an investigation by the Tahlequah Police Department and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Contreras-Mata was indicted in November and pleaded guilty in December.
The indictment alleged on or about Aug. 15, Contreras-Mata was arrested by the Tahlequah Police Department for domestic assault and battery by strangulation. Tahlequah Police contacted ICE and determined that Contreras-Mata was illegally within the United States after having been previously removed on Feb. 5, 2010.
