Two men were arrested in Ames this week after one tried to use the other’s information to get a driver’s license.
Brandon Carillo-Aguallo, 29, of 2223 University Ave., in Des Moines, was charged with forgery, a class D felony, for using another man’s documents in an attempt to get an Iowa driver’s license.
Police say at 1:26 p.m. Tuesday, Aguallo entered the driver’s license station at 3708 Lincoln Way and, using the Social Security card, birth certificate and a phone bill belonging to Victor Velazquez Delgado as proof of citizenship, applied for the license.
Department of Transportation workers caught on and called police, and both Aguallo and Delgado were arrested. Police said the two were acquaintances, and Delgado was in the DOT station while Aguallo was filing for his license.
Cmdr. Mike Brennan, of the Ames Police Department, said Delgado, a Puerto Rican, was a U.S. citizen, and had given his documents to Aguallo, a non-citizen from Mexico. The two gave police the same address in Des Moines, 2413 24th St.
Delgado was charged with forgery, a class D felony, and harassment of a public official for his part in the incident. Aguallo was charged with forgery.
Aguallo remains in the Story County Jail on a hold for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Brennan said.
