Nine adults who authorities say are illegal immigrants were picked up from the Medina County Jail this morning by representatives of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The Medina County Sheriff's Office said the adults — as well as two juveniles believed to be illegal immigrants — were in a 1994 Chevrolet Suburban sport utility vehicle with Arizona license plates that was pulled over on a traffic stop about 11 p.m. Tuesday in Wadsworth Township. The stop was made in the area of Interstate 76 and state Route 94.

The group was detained at the request of federal immigration officials, the sheriff's office said.

The adults and juveniles are apparently from Mexico, said Sgt. Mitch Pope of the sheriff's office.

The juveniles were placed with Medina County Children's Services. Federal authorities planned to pick them up this morning.

It was not immediately clear where federal authorities planned to place the adults and juveniles.

Pope said the nine adults in the group were men.
