Officials: Sweep nets 30 fugitive aliens
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said 30 fugitive aliens were arrested in the Binghamton area this week as part of a multi-state sweep to find illegal aliens who fail to leave the country after being ordered to do so by a federal judge.
A team of law enforcement officers operating from Buffalo made arrests in Binghamton and in Syracuse, where 22 fugitive aliens were arrested, officials said.
Of the 52 aliens arrested by Buffalo agents in Syracuse and Binghamton, 21 were fugitives, and 22 were aliens with criminal convictions, officials said. Customs agents in Binghamton arrested one person with felony convictions of burglary and criminal possession of a weapon and another man convicted of felony rape involving a minor, ICE officials said.
